Use of markers for variety identification: case of Nigerian pisiferas
The objective of the work was to verify the genetic identity of ten clones from an outstanding palm using microsatellite markers. The DNA was extracted from palms planted in 2000 and routine procedures were followed for the analysis of the fragments in the sequencer.
The genetic profile observed was identical in the 10 palms analyzed. The electropherogram of each microsatellite showed identical allele patterns in each palm. In this way, the same allele sizes were obtained in both homozygous and heterozygous conditions in the ten palms analyzed, showing that they are identical individuals that contain the same genetic load for the proportion of the genome analyzed with 16 microsatellites.
