Brunca
Inter specific hybrid E. oleifera x E. guineensis (OxG)
This hybrid comes from the crossing of Elaeis oleifera mother palms
(F1), originating from wild palms indigenous from the Quepos region (Puntarenas - Costa Rica),
with male lines (pisifera) Calabar (F5), developed in Nigeria (NIFOR) and introduced to
Costa Rica from Kade Oil Palm Research Station, Ghana.
This hybrid is resistant to the bud rots present in some regions in Central and South
America and can be planted at 143 palms per hectare (it has relatively shorter and more erect leaves than
regular OxG hybrids).
