Compact x Ghana
(High Density Compact Variety)

This variety comes from the crossing of compact dura mother palms (originating from successive backcrossing of an E. oleifera x E. guineensis natural hybrid with exceptional characteristics to E. guineensis paternal lines), with Calabar parental lines originating from Nigeria (NIFOR) and introduced to Costa Rica from the Kade Experimental Station in Ghana. The palms of this variety have considerably shorter leaves and trunks than standard E. guineensis varieties, so they can be planted at 170 palms per hectare.
